Adoption Policy

This Adoption Policy explains how ChinaTAC (Together for Animals China) evaluates adoption requests and places rescued animals into safe, responsible, and permanent homes. Adoption is a long-term commitment. Our priority is always the welfare of the animal.

1. Our Adoption Principles

We aim to place each animal in a home that matches their temperament, health condition, and daily needs. We focus on long-term stability and safe living conditions. When necessary, we may recommend training, behavior support, or a different match to ensure the best outcome for both the animal and adopter.

Our core values: safety, responsibility, transparency, and lifelong commitment.

2. Who Can Adopt

To protect animals and support successful adoptions, we generally require the following:

  • Adopters must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid contact information (phone and email) must be provided.
  • Adopters should be able to provide stable housing and consistent daily care.
  • If renting, adopters should confirm pets are allowed under their rental agreement.
  • Adopters must comply with local laws and animal welfare regulations.

3. Adoption Application & Screening

The adoption process may include an application form and a screening conversation. We may ask about your lifestyle, prior pet experience, home environment, and expectations. This is not meant to be difficult — it is to ensure the animal’s safety and reduce the chance of future surrender.

  • Application review and basic eligibility check
  • Interview / consultation (online or in person)
  • Meet-and-greet when possible
  • Final confirmation and agreement

Submission of an application does not guarantee approval.

4. Matching & Meet-and-Greet

Every animal has unique needs. We may recommend a specific animal based on compatibility, including energy level, temperament, household type (children, seniors), and other pets at home. A meet-and-greet helps confirm a good match and allows questions about care and behavior.

5. Health, Vaccination & Medical Disclosure

We do our best to provide information regarding the animal’s known health status, vaccinations, sterilization, and any medical treatments performed. However, rescue animals may have unknown histories, and future health issues may arise.

  • Basic health checks may be performed depending on available resources
  • Vaccination/sterilization status will be shared when known
  • Adopters are responsible for ongoing veterinary care after adoption

6. Adoption Fees & Donations

Adoption-related fees or suggested donations (if applicable) help cover rescue costs such as food, shelter, medical care, vaccinations, and sterilization. These funds support ongoing rescue operations.

Adoption fees and donations are generally non-refundable once the adoption is finalized.

7. Adopter Responsibilities

By adopting from ChinaTAC, you agree to provide humane care and a safe environment. This includes:

  • Proper nutrition, clean water, safe shelter, and daily companionship
  • Regular veterinary visits and timely treatment when needed
  • Responsible supervision to prevent roaming, injury, or harm
  • Humane training methods (no abuse or neglect)
  • Identification and safety measures when appropriate (collar/tag/microchip)

8. Home Safety & Living Arrangements

We encourage safe indoor living or protected outdoor arrangements appropriate to the animal. If the animal requires a specific environment (for example, quiet home, no stairs, no other animals), we will communicate those requirements during the matching process.

9. Follow-up & Support

We may conduct post-adoption follow-ups to ensure the animal is adapting well. If you need advice on behavior, transition, or basic care, we encourage you to contact us. Early communication can prevent small issues from becoming serious problems.

10. Returns, Transfers & Re-homing

If you are unable to keep the adopted animal, you must not abandon, sell, or transfer the animal without contacting ChinaTAC. We will work with you to determine the safest next steps, which may include return or assisted re-homing, depending on resources and circumstances.

11. Right of Refusal

ChinaTAC reserves the right to refuse or cancel an adoption if we believe the placement may not be in the best interest of the animal. This may include safety concerns, inability to provide suitable care, or inaccurate information provided during the application process.

12. Policy Updates

We may update this Adoption Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page.

Adoption is a lifelong commitment. Thank you for choosing compassion and responsibility.
